Snowman Spree

Need an idea for your classroom party?  Stocking Stuffer?  Gift for your children to make for their friends? Cure for the winter doldrums?

Look no further--have I got an idea for you!  I came up with this a few years back to raise money for a local children's hospital. We donated a flurry of these little guys to be sold at a Christmas fundraiser.  They are really easy and fun to make!

This is what you will need to make one snowman:

*a package of candy that comes in a "tube" shape (chewy spree, bottle caps, mentos, m&ms, rolos, something like that)
*scissors, glue, hole punch
*scotch tape
*a white piece of paper-just plain lightweight paper like you would use in your printer
*orange and black paper scraps

*an old orphaned knit glove (you know--the one that has long ago lost it's mate--children's sizes work well)
*1/2 inch  pom pom ball
*material scraps
*small buttons

Measure the length of your candy tube.  (I used Chewy Spree and mine measured 6 1/2 inches)  Cut the white piece of paper into a three inch wide strip (you may need wider if you choose a particulary large candy tube), and trim it to the length of your candy tube.  You want to be able to wrap the paper several times around the tube, so the original wrapper won't show through.  Tape one of the long sides of the paper to the tube of candy.  Make sure it is straight.  Roll the paper onto the tube and secure the outside with more tape.

Now comes the fun part--decorating!  Cut one of the "fingers" off of your knit glove.  (Save the rest to make more snowmen-because you will definitely want to make more than one!)

Roll the cut edges up and glue the pompom to the top to make a cute little ski hat.  Put the hat on the top of the paper wrapped tube.

Cut eyes and a carrot nose out of paper scraps.  I used a small hole punch for the eyes, and free-handed the carrot.  Glue to the front of the tube to make the snowman's face.

Cut a strip of scrap fabric to make a scarf.  Mine was 1/2 inch wide and 7 inches long.  You may need to vary the dimensions of your scarf depending on the candy that you use.  I ripped my fabric strip to give it a a little fringe.  Tie around the snowman to keep him warm.

Now choose some fun buttons to glue down the snowman's front.  Oh, and don't forget to glue on the pompom.  There you have it!

I decided to add a little round tag to my frosty friend.

And I made some for you, too!  Just print out this page of tags.
Cut out with scissors or punch with a circle punch!  And attach.
"It's so simple, so easy, so perfectly perfect!"

  4. I love this idea. It would make a great treat for classmates. I have tried to print the adorable little heart tags but can't seem to figure out how to do it. Any suggestions? Please advise at hansontl@comcast.net.

    Thanks in advance....
